Rebuild Plan

The Village Hall has now reached the end of its economic life. The trustees have been advised that any money spent on repair and improvement would not be cost effective in the long term. The walls and roof contain asbestos and one of the buildings to the rear needs re-roofing along with other repairs. The recommendation of Chartered Surveyors was to source funding to replace the building with a new one of more conventional construction using better insulation materials.

Planning permission to demolish it and build a new Village Hall was granted by Wiltshire Council on 13 March 2024; however, funding the  estimated cost of around the £1.2 million without major grants was making the project unaffordable.

After further meetings and a village wide survey, which offered 4 potential options, there was overwhelming for 'Option 3' which was to takedown the existing timber frame and corrugated iron hall, rebuilding on the existing footprint leaving in place the existing store and toilet block with a minor extension to fill the space between the store and toilet block. A new planning application was submitted to Wiltshire Council on 2 July 2025. The application was validated by Wiltshire Council’s Planning Department on 7 July 2025 (Planning Application: PL/2025/05635); this marks the beginning of the formal planning process. The consultation process closes on 4 August 2025 with Wiltshire Council estimating a decision around 1 September 2025.

The Project timetable plans for work to start in January/February 2027 having allowed sufficient time to secure all the funding required.
