The Way Forward
The closure of the Communities Ownership Fund and the failure to secure a substantial grant from the National Lottery, made the ‘Planning Approval’ granted on 31 March 2024 unaffordable forcing a re-think on the project.

Again, we consulted widely with the Parish Council, village hall user groups and the whole community. We held, a well-attended, open public meeting on 16 May 2025, where we briefed on the four potential options. A straw poll at the end of the meeting overwhelmingly supported ‘Option 3’: to rebuild on the current site utilising the current footprint with a small extension to increase the hall’s usable floorspace.

The meeting was immediately followed by a questionnaire distributed to all householders to determine village support for each option. 48.9% of all households in the village responded with 89.8% opting for ‘Option 3’. It also addressed making up any shortfall in funding by taking out a government loan re-payable through a small increase in the precept – 78.9% supported this.

A new planning application was prepared and submitted on 2 July 2025. The CIO Board has drafted a timetable for the Village Hall Rebuild Project which envisages a start to the rebuild in February 2027.
