UPDATE - THE VILLAGE HALL ROOF

The Village Hall Trustees (Committee) have been concerned over the state of the Village Hall roof and despite the advice of the Chartered Surveyor’s report of 4 October 2021 which concluded:

‘Any money now spent on repair and improvement would not be cost effective in the long term’.

In an act of ‘due diligence’: they commissioned a professional contractor to survey the storeroom and toilet block roofs and recommend any measures to ensure the roofs safety – this was conducted on 22 November and the contractor confirmed he would:

“Screw down the roof with Easy drive flange 100mm screws and refix the exposed nails that have come up and screw more fixings in. This will secure the roof down and make it last a few more years.”

This work was completed on 6th December just prior to Storm Darragh, an extratropical cyclone which was expected and did severely impact the local area. The cost to complete these works and make safe was £720.

The Trustees of the Village Hall are aware that we will still require to use the current Village Hall for the foreseeable future, and it must be safe, before the much needed rebuild. Action was required as the alternative of doing nothing would have been negligent - it may (would probably) invalidate any insurance claim should either roof became dislodged, causing damage or personal injury.
